Living in Leamington Spa: The teenager edit
We handed over our blog to our team of 16-17 year old work experience this week and asked them what they love about their home town of Leamington Spa. This is what they told us.
Royal Leamington Spa is often celebrated for its rich history as it became Royal in 1838 when Queen Victoria bestowed the prestigious prefix upon the town. She granted the honour in recognition of her visits as a young princess; but beyond well-known attractions, there are plenty of fun places for teenagers to hang out and enjoy. In this blog post we’ll share some of our favourite spots.
One of our favourite places is Jephson Gardens as it is a beautiful spot to meet friends, walk around, have a picnic or relax by the river. The flowers are very beautiful to be around, unless you have hay fever, which has a calming atmosphere. It is a beautiful place to relax or play sports in the sunny afternoon. For those who enjoy a bit more fun activity Leamington holds events like parades in the top of town and a fair in early July by the bandstand. We also love hanging out by cafes like costa, coffee #1 etc which is perfect for catching up over drinks or studying. The Parade and Regent Court offer a mix of high street stores and unique boutiques.
For active teens, there are a lot of options too like tenpin bowling, arcades, pool, darts in Gamefinity and a trampoline park in AirHop. Sports fans can join clubs, go to the gym or enjoy open spaces like Victoria Park for runs or skateboarding. If you want to watch movies there is a Vue cinema which is very affordable (up to £5) making it a hotspot as it is very accessible.
Another reason why teens enjoy spending time in Leamington Spa is the wide range of restaurants and cafes. Whether you’re looking for a quick snack after school or somewhere to meet with your friends at the weekends, there are plenty of options. Popular options include Wagamama, Giggling Squid, Las Iguanas, Crème de la Crème, Rosa’s Thai, Wingers, Nando’s and PizzaExpress. While cafes are perfect for hot drinks and cakes. Many restaurants are located around the parade making it easy to grab something to eat after shopping or other activities.
What we don't love? The parks aren’t safe enough for us to hang out together later at night and even while we were filming in the middle of the afternoon, we saw two kids doing wheelies on motorbikes in the park. It didn't really worry us, it's just weird.
